Cretan Eagle Aviation

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Cretan Eagle is an approved Flight Training Organisation (JAA FTO GR.004), which takes pride in providing quality training for its student pilots.

We are also affiliated with one of the best theoretical training organisations in the UK, Cranfield Aviation Training School (CATS), which specialises in providing theory training from PPL through to ATPL level. Cretan Eagle uses and provides CATS ATPL study material throughout Greece.

LOCATION AND AIRPORT

Heraklion Airport (LGIR) is the second largest airport in Greece, second only to Athens, and handles a high volume of commercial traffic throughout the year, especially during the summer months, when millions of tourists flock to Crete from throughout Europe and beyond.

Located at the southernmost point of Europe, the climate provides us with 330 flying days per year.

The airport is open 24 hours daily, with full Air Traffic Control (Ground, Tower, Radar) services throughout the year, allowing us to train by both day and night and providing the ideal training environment for prospective commercial pilots.

The airport has two active runways, the main 09 – 27 runway, used primarily by heavier commercial traffic and 12 – 30 runway for use by lighter aircraft, although we also regularly use Runway 27.

The airport also has VOR, NDB and DME facilities plus associated Instrument Approach Procedures for IR(A) training.

We also have the distinct advantage of having the Light Aircraft Apron located only two minutes taxi time from the threshold of Runway 30, which we use for the majority of training, significantly reducing your time on the ground.

Added to this, we have our own flight training area, which we use for general handling training and which is located only 5 minutes flight time from the airport.

We are also only 40 minutes flying time from the impressively picturesque volcanic island of Santorini and only 80 minutes from Athens, as well as Karpathos, Rhodes and many other beautiful Greek islands.
